Blendtec Designer Series WildSide Blender Review

The Designer Series WildSide is an innovative new blender from Blendtec that looks perfect in any high-end kitchen. The new design and updated control panel sets this blender apart from the others.

Blendtec has recently released a limited number for Designer Series Certified Refurbished packages for sale. If you’re able to get one, you could save $75 over the cost of a brand new model.

Specifications

The Designer Series WildSide stands 15″ tall, 7″ wide and 9.25″ deep and it weighs in at 8 lbs. The package contains one Designer Series motor base, which comes in one of four colors (champagne metallic, red, white, or black), the WildSide container, a Vented Gripper™ lid, the Fresh Blends recipe book, and owner’s care manual. The Designer Series WildSide comes with the Blendtec 7-year warranty, which is one of the most comprehensive warranties on the market.

The WildSide Container

The WildSide container

The five-sided WildSide design and the single-prong wingtip blade help creates an uninterrupted blend by stopping any air pockets from forming. You will not need a tamper with the WildSide container.

The 96-ounce container is made of BPA-free plastic, has an ergonomic handle, and markings on the side to help you measure out your recipes. The patented Vented Gripper™ lid secures the container tight to prevent any spillage, has a removable plug that lets you add ingredients during blending, and vents that release heat and pressure build up when blending hot ingredients.

Like all of the Blendtec containers, the WildSide will work with wet and dry ingredients so you won’t need to buy a separate container for when you want to grind flours or make bread dough.

Keeping the WildSide container clean is very easy. You just need to fill the container half full with warm water and add a few drops of dish soap, then set the motor on a fast setting, and let the blender do the rest of the work. After 30-60 seconds of blending, the soapy water will clean the inside of the container and blades. Just rinse it out with warm water and leave it to dry.

The Motor

Designer Series WildSide

The Blendtec Designer Series WildSide’s motor is direct-drive, meaning that the motor shaft connects directly to the shaft of the blade. This type of configuration transfers all of the power straight through, unlike motors that use additional gears.

The motor’s microprocessor is programmed with a smart hammer effect, which can detect any obstructions and instantly alter the cycle so that not even the toughest foods will break the blender’s progress.

The motor has been rated at 3-peak horsepower in independent tests and works at 1560 watts from 13 amps. The blade on the WildSide reaches 270 miles per hour which equates to 28,000 revolutions per minute.

The Designer Series also features a revolutionary new airflow design that keeps the motor cooler, resulting in a longer life.

The Controls

Designer Series controls

The controls of the Designer Series WildSide is where this blender really separates itself from the others. You’ll notices that the typical buttons and switches are missing.

This blender features Blendtec’s new TotalControl™ technology and makes use of a new slider interface. Precision sensors on the panel, similar to those used on your touchscreen phone or tablet, allow you to adjust the speed with a touch of your finger.

It also includes a pulse button and 6 presets:

  1. Batters
  2. Ice Crush
  3. Smoothie
  4. Ice Cream
  5. Whole Juice
  6. Soups

Since the control panel is just a flat piece of glass, you can quickly wipe the area clean with a wet cloth, and when you shut the blender off, the controls go completely dark, leaving you with a sleek, black panel.

Our Conclusion

The Designer Series WildSide by Blendtec features many innovations that can take your blending to the next level. From a sleek new control panel to a revolutionary new WildSide container, this package from Blendtec is worth the price if you’re serious about blending.

  1. Blendtec Designer Series 1560 Watts (no model number) received brand new as a gift. Getting a P106 C103 Error code during startup and goes away after a few seconds. Happens every time the blender is plugged in/started up. Customer service is terrible.. I’ve been on hold for over 50 minutes.. already not a happy customer. Blender is brand new and never abused but exhibiting error codes out of the box. Need help.

Alex, I’m sorry to hear that you’re having such rotten luck. The best advice I can offer is to hang in there until you’re able to get a hold of someone at Blendtec via phone or through one of their social media accounts. My experience with everyone there has always been very positive and I’m sure they would be very eager to help make it right.

  2. I just ordered the blended designer wild side black. I am beginning to juice, etc. I have. Breville, but decided to try blentec as suggested by a friend. I have nor received the blender, but I am wondering if I made a good choice after seeing so many negative reviews.

Can someone who has the blentec designer series tell me how much they like it or hate it

    1. I’ve owned a designer series for a few months and am now here researching other blenders.

For juices, the Blendtec works pretty good, but for thicker mixtures it really becomes hard to use. The ingredients just stick to the side of the container and I have to turn it off to scrape down the sides.

Blendtec now has a new jar that has a lid that you can turn to scrape down the sides, but I don’t want another jar.

Vitamix blenders come with a tamper which you can use to scrape ingredients away from the sides and push them back down into the blades. That’s why I am thinking about trading mine for a Vitamix.

If you’re just going to be using yours for juicing, the Blendtec should do just fine.
