Specifications

At it’s core, the TurboBlend VS is essentially the same as the Vitamix 5200. The base measures 20.5″ high with the 64 oz container atop the base, by 7.25″ wide and 8.75″ deep. It weighs in at 10.5625 lbs., also the same as the Vitamix 5200, but the motor base of this model is only available in black.

Filtration bag

The major difference in this package comes in from the accessories. It comes with a specialized recipe book, Live Fresh Recipes which includes hundreds of raw, vegan, and vegetarian recipes. You’ll also receive an exclusive Let’s Get Started DVD, hosted by raw food author, Ani Phyo, and a 100% help filtration bag used for straining whole juices and nut milks.

The New Eastman Tritan™ container

The TurboBlend VS ships with a 64 oz BPA-free Eastman Tritan™ container. The container is made from a BPA-free polycarbonate material that features improved sound damping and improved resistance to chemicals. The container has an ergonomically designed handle that makes it very easy to pour and the easy-off 2-part vented lid. The lid incorporate a twist-off central lid plug which prevents spillage and lets you add ingredients during blending.

The container is extremely easy to clean the container. Just fill it about half way, with warm water and a drop of dishwashing soap, and let it run on the high-speed setting for about a minute and the container will clean itself. Rinse out the soap with warm water and let it dry.

The TurboBlend VS is available as part of the Certified Reconditioned Standard package which will save you $120 over the cost of a new model.

The Motor

The motor in the TurboBlend VS is the same as the 5200 and was designed for Vitamix in Sweden. The motor is low friction ball bearing machine that has clearly been built to last. The base unit contains a radial cooling fan that keeps the blender cool even at the top speed settings. This is teamed with Vitamix’s thermal protection system which prevents you manually overloading the motor. This blender has a 1380 watt motor that runs at 2 peak horsepower. The ten-speed settings go from 11mph all the way up to 240 mph.

The Controls

TurboBlend VS base

This is a manually controlled blender and doesn’t have a touchpad like some of the other models on the market. The two switches and the central speed dial that goes from 1-10, are made from ‘soft-touch’ rubber which is a grippable and long lasting material.

The TurboBlend VS also doesn’t have pre-programmed settings, but it is still extremely versatile. You can make juices, milkshakes, nut milk, smoothies, soups, syrups, and really great ice-cream, but you will have to control it with the variable speed dial. Clearly this isn’t as simple as some of some of the pre-programmed and touchpad models but the blender is extremely versatile once you have learned how to use it.

Our Conclusion

The Vitamix TurboBlend VS is a new and exciting blender with the power and versatility that is expected from a Vitamix machine plus the additional accessories and recipe guidance to make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to get more into the raw, vegan, or vegetarian lifestyle.
